Buddy Poppies
For more than 75 years, the VFW's BUDDY POPPY program has raised millions of dollars in support of Veterans welfare and the well being of their dependents.
The VFW conducted its first poppy distribution before Memorial Day in 1922 and was the first veterans organization to organize a nationwide distribution.
It was in February 1924, when the VFW registered the name "BUDDY POPPY" with the U. S. Patent office.
We here at Post 3820 hold our Buddy Poppy distribution in several locations throughout the town, usually on the Saturday immediately prior to Veterans Day. It is well to remind all that 100% of the proceeds go to our Post Relief Fund that is restricted specifically for the support of Veterans either residing locally or passing through.
