Patriots Pen Contest
Patriots Pen gives 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students the opportunity to express their opinion on a patriotic theme and improve their writing skills, while they compete for awards. The theme for 2020-21 is "What is Patriotism to me?"
Post winners advance to District 8 for judging and District winners then advance to Department (State) and in due course, Department winners advance to National to compete for the grand prize and consolation awards.
Post, District, and Department all give cash awards to winners. The first place winner of the National Patriots Pen Contest will receive $5,000 and an all expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.
Post 3820 has been involved in the Patriots Pen Contest for many years and working with Salida Middle School, has created an annual event that is favorably looked forward to with enthusiasm from both the teachers and students.
This event usually begins right after school starts with a November 1 deadline to the Post and the Post submits their winners to District by November 15.
Entry forms will be provided to Mrs. Amy Tressler, one of the eigth grade teachers, who will manage the preparation of the essays and forward them to the post's Youth Activities committee.
